Appassionata(USA) easily adds the Clásico Día de la Mujer-G3 to her trophy case. click here for larger

There were only 3 entries for the field of the G3 Clásico Día de la Mujer due to the dominance of Champion Imported 2 Year-old Filly Appassionata (USA), but the lack of pace made her connections set a different plan for the race. Jockey Hector Hernandez was instructed to keep her close to the leaders rather than implementing her now signature come-from-behind rallies.

The 3 year-old bay daughter of Kantharos - Pop Pop's Hope, by Valid Trefaire, sat right off the hip of early leader Nieve Morena (USA) (Overdriven) who made the first pole in 0:23 1/5 and jockey Hernandez let his filly ease past and it was Appassionata's turn to stop the establish the remaining fractions of 0:46 0/5, 1:10 4/5 and stopped the timer in an excellent 1:23 2/5. 

After the race jockey Hernandez confided to the owners, "For an instant I thought I had moved to early but when I whistled to her she took off like a rocket. In deep stretch I thought of giving her a tap with the whip but when I looked at the others getting smaller I decided just to use a little arm movement to keep her honest."

Appassionata(USA) is owned by RSA, is trained by Eugenio Deschamps and Juan Jimenez and was ridden by Hector Hernandez. She was purchased at the Ocala Breeder's Sales Company June 2016 sale from the Gelfenstein Farm consignment.
