Rancho San Antonio (RSA) is widely recognized as one of the Caribbean’s premier thoroughbred breeding and racing operations. Founded in 1981 by Dr. Angel Contreras Mejía and led since 1999 by his son, Dr. Angel Contreras Groves, RSA has evolved into one of the Dominican Republic’s most respected and influential breeding programs. Through a steadfast commitment to elite bloodlines, strategic linebreeding, uncompromising standards of conformation, and exceptional horsemanship, RSA has consistently raised the benchmark for locally bred thoroughbreds. Year after year, the farm continues to strengthen its legacy of excellence both on the racetrack and in the breeding shed.

RSA is proud to be the breeder of Sicótico, widely regarded as the greatest racehorse in Dominican Republic history. Crowned 2008 Caribbean Champion and winner of the prestigious Clásico del Caribe (G1), Sicótico achieved an extraordinary record of 24 consecutive victories while establishing four track records. His remarkable career accomplishments include winning the Dominican Triple Crown, earning Horse of the Year honors at both three and four years of age, and receiving titles as Champion 2-Year-Old Colt, Champion 3-Year-Old Colt, Champion Older Horse, and Champion Stayer. He also became the all-time leading money earner in Dominican racing history. Sicótico remains the only Dominican-bred thoroughbred inducted into the Caribbean Horse Racing Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy as an icon of Caribbean racing.

Today, RSA is regarded as a preferred source for elite stallions and quality thoroughbreds throughout the region. Our farm offers a complete range of services, including breeding, foaling, boarding, layups, training, and weanling and yearling sales.

Our broodmare band is considered among the finest in the region, combining distinguished international female families with the best proven local bloodstock. This carefully developed program has allowed RSA to consistently produce champions, stakes winners, and top-class performers at both the national and regional levels. Over the years, RSA has repeatedly ranked among the Dominican Republic’s leading breeders by winners, stakes winners, and champions.

Racing Program

RSA maintains an active and highly competitive racing stable that consistently ranks among the leading stables in the Dominican Republic. Particularly noteworthy is that much of this success has been achieved with young homebred runners developed through our own program, including horses that were retained after not being sold at auction.

Our racing operation is driven by a long-term commitment to developing durable, competitive, and high-class thoroughbreds capable of succeeding at the highest levels of Caribbean racing. RSA regularly campaigns stakes winners, champions, and elite performers who continue to uphold the farm’s tradition of excellence.
