The Rancho San Antonio 2013 Yearling Sale was held on November 10^th, 2013. Despite the excellent fan turn-out for the Clásico Angel Contreras Mejía-G3 held the day before, there was slight pessimism for a sale just a few weeks after the reopening of the Hipódromo V Centenario after a 6 month track closure due to the administration being unable to honor the owner’s purses. The closure prompted the presidency to designate new administrators, which have been able to resume regular racing and payments to owners.

 The sale day was hampered by 3 tropical downpours, unusual for this time of year but what really dampened the mood was the cautiousness of buyers at the lower end of the market. 15 of the 21 yearlings offered were sold (29% RNA), at an average price of DOP$ 287,000 and a median of DOP$ 350,000, down 27% from the very successful 2012 sale. Fortunately, many of the foals were sold privately after the sale.

The sale topper was Hip. No. 19, a dark bay colt by Sicótico out of Champion 2 and 3 Year-old filly Patricia Minerva (Struggler), who was hammered down by Osiris Bautista of the Leading 2013 DR stable Establo Moises.
