The G2 Clásico Día de Duarte marks the start of the DR's 3-year-old-season with probable 2015 Champion 2-year-old colt Tango Dancer given a well deserved pre-race favoritism.

La Aurora Stable's Tango Dancer wrestled the lead from a well positioned Gran Sultan at the quarter pole and the 2 colts fought for race supremacy in the upper stretch. Tango Dancer pulled away by 3 1/2 lengths early in the last turn only to have Gran Sultan nearly collar the son Tango Tales and Let's Dance Again, by Green Dancer. Tango Dancer, who often idles when on the lead, after feeling the presence of his nemesis in the stretch, dug in deep and drew away by 1 1/4 lengths to win his second career graded stakes after posting fractions of 0.23 3/5, 0.47 4/5, 1:13 3/5 and 1:48 4/5 for the 1700 meter event.

Produce of leading RSA Tango Tales (by Tale of the Cat) repeat with a win in the Clásico Día de Duarte-G2, since his daughter Gotica de Miel won the race in 2015. Coincidently, Tango Dancer half-sister and now RSA broodmare Locura won the race in 2013.

Tango Dancer now sports a record of 6 wins and 2 seconds in 8 lifetime starts, with wins in the G1 Clásico de Criadores and a placing in the G3 Clásico Angel Contreras Mejía with lifetime earnings of DOP $612,650. He is trained by Eugenio Deschamps and Juan Jimenez and was ridden by Hector Hernandez.
